Old Town Church Square
The Altstädter Kirchenplatz, or Old Town Church Square, is just a few steps away from what used to be the centre of the Old Town, today’s Martin Luther Square. Here we find the three-storey sandstone building that was formerly the Old Town Hall (and today houses the municipal museum). It’s hard to imagine now that until the unification of the two towns in 1812 the Old and New Town each had their own town hall, their own council and even different currencies (the Franconian florin on the one hand, the Rhenish florin on the other).
