Corner of Wasserturmstrasse and Schiffstrasse
Even before the 1686 plan for constructing an ideal town had been carried out, suburbs on the edge of Erlangen’s Old and New Towns had sprung up along the much-used main street, continuing the structure of the planned town and soon growing together. Since the Old Town was burnt down on 14 August 1706 and subsequently rebuilt on the model of the New Town with straightened streets and squares, it is virtually impossible to make out any difference in the architectural style.
